Can someone help me interpret the Chi-square statistic for a 2x2 table? Thanks.

The chi-square statistic measures the difference between the observed frequency and the expected frequency in a contingency table. It is the sum of the contributions from each of the individual cells. A large Chi-square statistic indicates that for some cells in the table, the observed frequencies differ markedly from the expected frequencies.
